Designed by 13 students from King Middle School in Portland, Maine, this prematch top is the result of a 12-session collaboration with Design FC.
Throughout the program, students explored what their community, their city and Hearts of Pine mean to them. They reflected on what it feels like to have a professional soccer club in their hometown, what makes Portland feel like home, and how Hearts can represent the people and communities that make this city what it is. Those ideas became artwork, and their individual perspectives came together in one final design created entirely through their eyes.
Design FC is a design nonprofit and youth-driven brand that brings together sport and creativity to inspire the next generation. Through hands-on design programs and industry collaborations, Design FC gives young people a creative outlet, a platform to share their stories, and an introduction to careers in the world of sport.
The finished top will be worn by Hearts of Pine players during prematch, bringing the students’ work from the classroom to the pitch and giving them the chance to see their own vision of Portland represented by their hometown club.
